Soundwalk

As I got off of work leaving my doctor's office on 90th street, I was walking towards 86th street train station, with my feet hitting the pavement on my way to school. So what do I hear? Just the average noise of cars honking at other cars to Go, the sounds of dogs barking, people and kids talking amongst each other, and construction sounds. This is New York City on a regular day. It's quite beautiful sometimes when you can "hear" rather than "see" how New York is. I never realized that there can be beauty in everything including sound. Usually on a busy street I'm pretty sure there would've been even more noise, but here I was on Park Avenue listening to somewhat of a quieter area of New York City. Who would've know that you can sometimes reflect and be at peace just listening to the natural street sounds of the Big Apple.

Editing Analysis - Ad Astra

The Movie Ad Astra Ad Astra was a compelling space adventure that hold itself through magnificent visuals and great plot despite its slowness in the editing process.  I will say I enjoyed the world building touches and Brad Pitt's space death curse. I feel like the writing/directing/editing definitely could have done a better job with all of that talent, though. The most “realistic” space movie I’ve seen, I loved the portrayal of the “near future”. Cinematography was absolutely amazing, as well as acting and sound editing & mixing. Story was engaging. I love the tender introspection in such a big story. My favorite part was when traveling to the moon was depicted as unglamorously as flying coach to LaGuardia. I would love to eat Applebee’s in Zero G’s. Great editing. The movie first and foremost is a technical masterpiece. The cinematography, sound editing/mixing and score are beautiful. BUT... the plot and dialogue leave much to be desired. With hints of GRAVITY and ARRIVAL, ...

Blog Assignment 1: ARTIST STATEMENT

"You think you know, but you have no idea?" Sounds so cliche right? Let me introduce myself to the newcomers on my page. My name is Shanel, some call me "Nellz, or Nelly" for fun. I'm a Junior at Hunter College studying in Broadcast Journalism. I've always been a fan of the media world, let alone on camera. My goal in life is to be a News Reporter. Whether, local news or entertainment news. I've never been afraid of being in front of the big screen, except when I'm having a bad hair day, then all bets are off. I have a big family, and everyone has some crazy personalities including myself. Let's start off with the fact that my mom brought two Scorpios into the world, my sister and I. Oh! did I mention that my mother is a Scorpio woman as well. Something tells me a lot of "extracurricular activities" was happening with my parents back in the day. In the past, I've studied documentary films, television production, the history of how...
